UBS Indignation at shuttle service halt

Malta Independent Wednesday, 2 June 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

This service was being provided in agreement with VISET, the terminal operators, and was intended to facilitate access to the capital city as is provided in other countries in the interest of the tourists.

This action of the ADT and police officials seemed conditioned by fear from those who use force instead of reason and leads to a strengthening of an attitude that one should take the law in one’s own hands to achieve one’s aims.

The UBS committee expressed its surprise at the silence of the authorities set up to look after the tourist sector when confronted with similar situations that cause so much damage to an industry that is so vital to our country.

Coach owners and drivers are entitled to their livelihood and the officials of the ADT and the police are not entitled to deny them from such livelihood.

The committee of the UBS is consequently holding the ADT and the Police responsible for this pitiful action and reserve the right to take any further action as the circumstances warrant.
