A GWU statement said that Menrad is a company producing spectacles that in the past used to employ up to 250 workers. The decision to dismiss the workers came after a board of directors meeting which discussed the lack of orders received by the company.
The company’s difficult position was discussed yesterday in a meeting held between the GWU, the Union Haddiema Maghqudin and Malta Enterprise. A meeting was later held for the workers.
The GWU said that the union had insisted that all workers who are to be dismissed receive what is rightfully theirs. It will also work to find alternative employment for them.
