The list of world-renowned wine estates hailing from France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the United States, Chile, Argentina and Australia participating in the Valletta International Wine Fair 2004 is impressive.

Well over 100 wine brands will be on display and for sale. Apart from buying some of the world’s finest wines on display either by the glass or by the bottle, the public will have the opportunity to learn more about this noble produce.

Participants in the Valletta International Wine Fair include M. Demajo, Wands, Simonds Farsons Cisk, PJ Sutters, N.M.Arrigo, Cleland & Souchet, Power Imports, Mirachem, Dullard Cellars and Bicanter.

With its magnificent views of the Grand Harbour, this is the first of a series of cultural and entertainment events, through which Valletta Waterfront will bring this area of the Capital city back to life. Another objective of this weekend event is to foster a wider wine culture among Maltese wine lovers, those involved in the catering trade, and the public. Ample and easy parking facilities have been allocated in the area.

“This unique opportunity is an experience which is a definite must for any wine lover. Following the recent lifting of levies, the Valletta International Wine Fair is an ideal opportunity to sample a wide selection of wines and ask any questions on the products available before choosing which wines to purchase,” said Valletta Waterfront business manager, Mr Dirk Spiteri Lucas.

“Pinto Wharf vaults lend themselves perfectly for this wine event, which is just the first step to transform the Valletta Waterfront and the surrounding areas into the cultural and entertainment centre of Malta,” he explained. “Our aim is that through the Valletta International Wine Fair, we will give the Maltese public their first taste of what the future holds for this magnificent historical site.”

The general public is invited to attend from 7.30pm till 11.30pm. On Sunday and Monday (6 and 7 June) the fair will also open from 10.30am till 1pm. Entrance is free. Apart from the numerous high quality wines available, the public will be able to enjoy a variety of food. One should also note that wine will not be served to persons under 18 years of age. Visitors to the fair will also be able to admire the Jaguar X-Type which will be displayed by Gasan Enterprises.
