Lavish Launch of new Alfa Romeo GT

Malta Independent Saturday, 5 June 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The venue is also currently hosting Caravaggio: La Mostra Impossibile and UCIM Co. Ltd managing director Francesca Mamo explained that it was chosen for the “subtle links between Alfa Romeo and Caravaggio”. She said both hailed from Milan and delivered great works, although obviously expressed in different forms.

The new car incorporates solidity and sturdiness with dynamism.

It is “aggressive, stylish and sophisticated” continued Ms Mamo. She said the car offers the driving satisfaction of a top performing coupé without compromising comfort and practicality.

The steering wheel, pedals and gearbox are designed for maximum vehicle control, said Ms Mamo. Five leather trim options are available for the interior of the new Alfa GT.

The model at the launch was a two-litre JTS which offers 165 BHP. Two manual gearboxes are available, one of which can be combined with a robotised Selespeed gearbox to offer more comfort.

Ms Mamo said that “anyone who has seen this car has been impressed” and this rang true as people rushed to look at the car the minute it was unveiled. The twin girls who unveiled the car had to move out of the way to give people more room to view the new Alfa.

The launch was an extravagant lounge affair that allowed the motoring and the art world to combine, even if just for a night.

The entrance to the venue was lined with a display of classic Alfa Romeos belonging to members of the Alfa Romeo Owners’ Club.

UCIM Co. Ltd is holding an open showroom today between 9am and 8.30pm and tomorrow between 9am and 1pm.
