Spreading His wings

Malta Independent Saturday, 5 June 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 23 years ago

In February, Ailas went up to Liverpool to meet Danny, a producer who at first planned to work on a single to be launched both in Malta and Liverpool. But this was only the beginning. What Dan said about Ailas was: “The Maltese Falcon has spread his wings to fly”.

As the producer listened to Ailas’ material, he realised that there was more to it than just one song. He noticed that apart from being determined, he is also a remarkable artist. An artist who has an individual style in the singular way he plays the guitar and the type of voice he possesses. This was confirmed by the reaction of his friends who heard Ailas play at his own home, during recording sessions and at places like Hannah’s Pub and Plummer’s Pub where Ailas played to a good-sized audience.

Ailas recorded his material at the SAE Institute studios in Liverpool. Out of 12 songs, the song Back Again was chosen as the single for an album which will be launched later this year. Ailas came back to Malta to work on the production of the video to this song, produced locally by EXS International Co. Ltd. This will also be launched, together with the single, and aired on all local TV stations. British session musicians were provided to record Back Again. On this single, vocals and guitars were performed by Ailas, bass guitar by Jay Jay Rio and drums and percussion by Craig O’Connor.

Ailas will travel back to Liverpool some time in August to finish recording his debut album as Ailas. He will also launch his forthcoming album in Liverpool and will be playing at various venues scheduled all over that city.

Ailas would like to thank all those who have helped and supported him through this entire project.

He will be playing in local pubs and venues all over Malta, so do not miss watching him live soon after the launch of his single Back Again.
