Anton Briffa said that Victor Mizzi, the watchman in question, had attacked him with a chair during a disciplinary board meeting because he had reported the fact that Mizzi was not showing up for work. Mizzi, from Zabbar, is being charged with causing serious injury to Mr Briffa.

The witness claimed he was seriously injured and showed the court photographs of his bruising. Defence attorney Giannella Caruana Curran asked the man to show the court his wounds since he said they were so grievous, but Mr Briffa explained that he had recovered in the last two weeks. The court was presided over by magistrate Lawrence Quintano while Dr Malcolm Mifsud appeared parte civile.
