The peak of the activities will be reached on 12 July, Police Day, with High Mass being celebrated by Archbishop Joseph Mercieca at 8.45 am at Police Headquarters in Floriana. At 10am there will be a defile in Republic Street down to Palace Square in Valletta, as well as a guard of honour followed by displays of the precision drill team music by the police band .
The novelty this year will be a re-enactment using old police uniforms and police equipment.
The monument in front of Police Headquarters will be dedicated to those police officers who have fallen in the line of duty over the years. This ceremony will take place at 10am on 11 July.
There will six police stations in Malta and one in Gozo thatwill be open to the public on different days. Police Headquarters will also be open on 11 July.
The Valletta police station will be open on 1 July, the Mosta police station on 2 July, the Sliema police station on 3 July, the Tarxien police station on 6 July, the Bugibba police station on 7 July, the Marsascala police station on 10 July, and the Victoria police station on 13 July.
In each locality there will a display in the evening by the police band, the precision drill team and the dogs’ section. In Valletta, there will be a display by the police jazz band and the dogs’ section.
Introducing the programme, Police Commissioner John Rizzo said the celebration of Police Day signifies the pride that members of the police corps take in their job.
“Over the past three years we have always tried to improve the programme for police week,” he said.
