A statement from the Department of Information yesterday said that the government had received a request from the MCESD to hold a meeting to discuss the government’s convergence plan that it presented to the European Union. This will be held over the next few days.
The DOI said that all decisions necessary for government to reach its budget targets are expected to be taken.
Among other things, the convergence plan, while giving a clear picture of the financial situation of the country, describes the government’s plans to manage the financial deficit and gives specific targets as to how the debts can be reduced to a sustainable level by 2007.
This would make it possible for Malta to benefit from the introduction of the Euro as our national currency.
