The accident happened at 6.30am when an Alfa Romeo car driven by a 29-year-old from Ghaxaq, crashed into a Ford Transit van travelling in the opposite direction which was being driven by a 46-year-old man from St Paul’s Bay. As a result of the collision the van turned onto its side and both vehicles sustained considerable damage.

Two Irish tourists were in the van, and one of them, a woman, was taken to hospital for medical attention. The police said she was suffering from broken bones, but she is not in a critical condition.

Investigations are being carried out by Naxxar district police.
