Dr Sant was speaking at a ceremony commemorating the 10th anniversary of the death of Gozitan entrepreneur and MLP MP Anglu Camilleri. During the event Dr Sant unveiled a plaque at the Nadur MLP club, also named after Mr Camilleri. “Mr Camilleri gave a valid contribution both in the job creating field and in the political sphere,” Dr Sant said, “the man deserves every honour for this work.”

He pointed out that in Gozo, 52 per cent of the unemployment figure includes youths, a rate larger than that for Malta, he added. “That is why employers should be given the necessary space,” Dr Sant insisted.

Progress in the Gozitan tourism sector would make headway in the resolution of a number of other problems, Dr Sant said, which will generate new employment opportunities.

Mr Camilleri was born in 1913 and died in 1994. He contested eight general elections with the Labour Party between 1953 and 1987. He was a member of parliament between 1953 and 1958, and between 1971and 1981.

A number of Gozitan MLP MPs also attended, including Dr Anton Refalo and Dr Justyne Caruana, as well as Dr Anton Tabone, Minister Giovanna Debono and Frederick Azzopardi from the Nationalist Party.
