An organisation statement said that eco-tax will severely affect the commercial viability of trade.

The main aim of the Green Dot organisation is to operate an authorised waste recovery scheme that will take up the obligations of industry to recycle its products. Since the Green Dot scheme will take up producers’ responsibility, the companies in the scheme should be exempt from eco-tax.

The action committee has requested an urgent meeting with the Rural Affairs and Environment Minister and the Parliamentary Secretary of Finance to discuss the impact of the Eco-tax Act.

The Green Dot organisation believes that Eco tax will not solve Malta’s environmental problems. In fact, it discourages the acceptance of polluters’ responsibilities, as it does not benefit trading in environmentally-friendly products.
