Eco-tax Will not help to solve the country’s environmental problems

Malta Independent Thursday, 12 August 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 23 years ago

The two MPs said the government’s eco-tax will not help to solve Malta’s waste management problems and will not contribute towards an efficient waste management system that Malta so badly needs.

Dr Brincat and Mr Galdes said the eco-tax is nothing more than a tax which will have to be shouldered by Maltese and Gozitan families.

The MPs said that government chose to implement the Eco tax on a consumerism basis while ignoring the greater environmental problems that have long been a thorn in the side of the general public.

The Nationalist government was once again showing that it is weak on environmental issues, they said.
