Sources close to the company said that there are around nine workers – mostly clerks – who will be re-deployed with PBS, a move described by sources as a “full circle”.

Of the other 25 employees who asked to be re-deployed with the government, three are Gozitan, while another three will soon reach pensionable age.

All of them will be receiving a letter from MIMCOL next week to inform them where they will be re-deployed.

Meanwhile, as anticipated by The Malta Independent on Sunday last week, another 29 workers were granted early retirement on Monday.

Among these there was journalist Leonard Callus, who has now been appointed head of news at RTK.

Of those 86 employees who decided to take early retirement, another 18 were released on 31 May, three were released on 9 July and another on 16 26 July.

However, there are still a number of employees in the newsroom who have chosen either early retirement or re-deployment with the government who have been asked to stay on till the staff replacing them is recruited.

Indeed, an external call for applications for journalist/editor which close on 26 August is being issued, The Malta Independent on Sunday has learnt.

Thus it clear that none or not all four vacancies have been filled following the interviews with people identified by the ETC from Part One and then Part Two of the list of registered unemployed.

The third call for applications for Manager News and Registered Editor closes tomorrow.
