Wishing Others Well (WOW), as the new wing has been christened, will serve as a multi-

purpose area used for counselling, training and education, cultural and social activities. Currently these services are offered from the chapel.

WOW will also host visitors from schools, youth clubs and other organisations. The premises may also be used for meetings, not only of the foundation itself, but also of other associations that are presently holding meetings at the chapel.

“I was not expecting such a big turnout of people,” Fr Hilary said when he referred to the number of youths who have made use of the services provided at the chapel.

“We do not keep statistics of the people who come here. But a number of suicides were prevented as a result of the counselling services offered here,

and that is already worth the effort.”

Mr John C. Grech, who chairs the foundation, said that success at the chapel was not gauged by statistics but rather by the difference the services made to the lives of individuals. “If we can truly make a difference in one person’s life, than it is worth all this effort,” Mr Grech said.

The services at the chapel are entirely manned by volunteers, totalling 120. These include counsellors and administrative staff. Nonetheless running the project costs some Lm8,000 yearly, which are mostly spent on utilities and maintenance.

The cost of constructing the chapel has been paid off with donations from the public and from the Augustine Province, as well as the Community Chest Fund and L-Istrina, which forked out Lm80,000. The WOW extension is estimated to cost Lm200,000.
