Parliamentary secretary Edwin Vassallo said that the work to be carried out was more links in the chain of work that has been carried out in other industrial zones that fall under the responsibility of Malta Enterprise (formerly Malta Development Corporation).

Mr Vassallo said the project was of great importance to the businesses located in Mriehel and Mosta and the work will follow similar projects in Handaq, Zebbug, and other parts of Mriehel.

Mr Vassallo said that a total of 19 new roads, using 35,000 metres squared of tarmac, will be built in the two areas.

The project will also include the construction of a services culvert (water, electricity and sewers) that will be connected to a new pump that was recently constructed in the Mosta industrial area.

Culverts will also be constructed to channel storm-waters out of the area.

The tad-Dakkara area of Mriehel will see the overhaul of six roads, while the tal-Qares area of Mosta will see the overhaul of 10 roads. The additional roads to be overhauled will be in the Tas-Sriedek area on the outskirts of Mosta.

Mr Vassallo said that all that remained was for the four contractors to get all the necessary permits from the MTA so work can commence.

ìThere is no reason for the work to take a long time, in fact, we are expecting the contractors to mobilise their equipment by the end of the month and to start digging trenches,î said Mr Vassallo.

Mr Vassallo said that the completion of the work would be another promise that the government had kept with the electorate.

He said that once the work is completed, it will mean that all five industrial zones not under the responsibility of the Malta Enterprise, will have been serviced by the government.
