In a statement issued yesterday, the government announced it is aware that animals must be treated fairly.

For the animal hospital to succeed, all organisations involved must band together to assure that the facility is built on solid foundations that are legal and financially viable, while providing a high standard of care.

The setting up of the Animal Welfare Council is a further witness to the government’s dedication to the fight against animal cruelty.

The council includes representatives from various organisations that promote animal protection and this therefore encourages coordination between these organisations.

The Rural Affairs and Environment Ministry will be formally asking the council to discuss and take an official stance on the issue of building an animal hospital.

The council will also be asked to draw up a bill of regulations on which the hospital will operate.

The government thanked the large number of volunteers that dedicated their time and energy to the protection of animals.

In the statement, the government said it will continue working towards educating the public through information campaigns and

educational spots.
