Two men are receiving treatment for grievous injuries following a traffic collision early this morning on Mġarr Road, Mġarr, while a driver has been arrested for leaving the scene.

Police were alerted to the accident at around 2am, after receiving reports that individuals required medical assistance at the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a Kymco motorcycle, driven by a 31-year-old resident of Marsaskala and carrying a 30-year-old passenger from Mġarr, was struck by a car. The driver of the vehicle immediately fled the scene following the impact, the police said.

A medical team administered first aid at the location before an ambulance transported both the motorcyclist and his passenger to Mater Dei Hospital. Hospital officials later confirmed that both victims sustained serious injuries.

Police successfully tracked down and identified the suspect vehicle in Mġarr shortly after the incident.

Authorities subsequently arrested the alleged driver, a 19-year-old Mġarr resident. Police investigations into the exact dynamics of the crash remain ongoing.
