Maltapost, UHM Meet to resolve deadlock

Malta Independent Tuesday, 14 September 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The meeting was called after a misunderstanding led to a number of Maltapost employees being locked out of work following an order for employees not to report for work yesterday.

The issue concerns a dispute between the UHM and the company over the recruitment of staff. In a statement, the UHM said the company was not honouring an agreement reached earlier this year. The union ordered staff to not use telephones and computers and not to accept and process bulk posting, parcels and registered letters.

Employees were also ordered not to distribute local council citations and un-addressed mail. Lastly, the employees were told not to process

government department post.

In an attempt to break the deadlock, the meeting was held at the Information Technology and Investments Ministry in the presence of Director of Industrial Relations Frank Pullicino.
