The activity was supported by the Malta Chamber of Scientists, Tumas Group of Companies and Air Malta.

The Maltese participants are Luke Mercieca and Clayton D’Amato, who attend St Aloysius College Sixth Form in Birkirkara. Luke and Clayton created a motorised chair that can climb up stairs and move up ramps and across uneven ground. The chair is also built with a gradient stabiliser, whereby the person sitting on the chair will always remain at the same gradient, regardless of the gradient of the ground upon which the chair is moving.

The National Student Travel Foundation was selected as national organiser for the EU Contest for Young Scientists in 1997 by the Education Ministry and every year since then has organised a local contest through which Malta’s representatives are chosen.
