It has now become known that the bellringers in St George’s belfries wore hoods, normally used during the Good Friday procession, to remain unidentied.
Independent sources also told this paper that had it not been for the Leone president, Dr Michael Caruana, worse could have happened as the band and its supporters were enraged by the bell ringing and wanted to take direct action.
