Dr Sant was due to speak at Sajfest, an activity organised by the Malta Labour Party in St Julian’s. However, the weather took a turn for the worse and the activity had to be called off. But the MLP authorised the media to go ahead with coverage of the prepared speech which was sent earlier in the day.

Dr Sant said former PN leader Eddie Fenech Adami stood still while the country was facing several problems and these problems are now threatening the future of the country and its citizens.

Dr Sant said that in order to really tackle the problems the country was facing, Dr Gonzi had to tell the truth and, in most cases, go against what he and his ministers had said in the past.

He said that if Dr Gonzi and his ministers had to tell the truth, they would be in direct confrontation with the clan of ‘friends of friends’ on whom the PN government depended to get its message across. He said that Dr Gonzi looks weak when trying to solve the problems brought about by successive PN governments.

Dr Sant said the worst problem affecting the country and its citizens is that of unemployment. In a desperate attempt to cover up what is really happening, Dr Gonzi is now mentioning new investments, Dr Sant said. He added that the Maltese people know that this is an old tactic of the PN which was also used by Dr Fenech Adami in the past.

He also spoke about the country’s financial situation and how, a year ago Dr Gonzi and other PN Ministers boasted about the country’s finances, when in actual fact it was exactly the opposite.

Dr Sant said that for the country’s economy to continue to flourish and for the unemployment list to decrease, the country needs a plan for its regeneration which focuses on the country’s problems.

Dr Sant mentioned the problem at the Forensic Lab which is at a standstill and that no one seemed to care about. He also spoke about the Mgarr and Cirkewwa terminals which are still mounds of rubble three years after they should have been completed.

Concluding, Dr Sant said that the Malta Labour Party will continue to tell the truth about what is really happening in Malta in the best interest of the country and its people.
