Malta Independent Thursday, 23 September 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 23 years ago

On Monday – the day before the event – the residents had a letter posted at home, signed by the executive secretary and the mayor, informing them that due to go-kart races being held from 9am on Tuesday, they had to remove their cars from the roads before 7.30am.

The roads in which the event was held were Triq Patri Tumas Scerri, Triq Dun Saverin Bianco, Triq il-Qastan and Triq il-Girna.

The residents complained that they had to remain locked inside in their houses for the entire morning. They also complained that they had to endure the “tremendous noises” of these go-karts and inhale the exhaust of the “formula one replicas”.

The residents said these enthusiasts had a track in Ta’ Qali where they could race their mini sports cars. Moreover, they said, no safety measures were taken during the event with great risks for the residents and

onlookers.
