Malta has played an active role in discussions at the European level on reintegrating Libya into the political mainstream, a Department of Information statement said. These discussions have included cooperation on illegal immigration.

In line with this, this agreement will result in Libya being better positioned to give a significant contribution to the fight against illegal immigration and organised crime within the Mediterranean area, the positive results of which will be experienced by all states in the region, the statement added.
