All this can be found in Super One’s new autumn schedule, said One Productions CEO Albert Marshall at a launch held at the Hotel Crowne Plaza in Sliema.
Super One’s new autumn schedule is composed of 48 TV programmes. “I think this may be termed ‘a small miracle’,” said Mr Marshall, adding that the local Malta Labour Party channel did not import any programmes at all.
The schedule includes various new ideas, not least of which is a new breakfast show – One Breakfast (everyday at 7am) – presented by rise-and-shine duo Jacquie Mercieca and Martin Sapiano.
The schedule includes a new emphasis on youth programmes – programmes made by young people for young people, added Mr Marshall. These include Out of Order (Friday, 10.05pm), aimed at party-goers, which features Malta’s top clubs and DJs. Another innovation is Level 6 (Friday, 6.30pm), a “reality TV” programme. In another programme, Studenti (Friday, 8pm), university students look at different aspects of academic life.
With three pieces a week, there will be no lack of drama on Super One’s new TV schedule. Foremost is Id-Dar tas-Soru, a classic work by Francis Ebejer adapted by Mark Doneo: a story of intrigue, mystery and love with some of Malta’s finest actors. Viewers will also be able to follow stories of love and infidelity in Imhabba Mill-Gdid, based on a romance by Jesmond Grech. Finally, a comedy – L-Avukat Gawdenz Bilocca – will provide entertainment for all the family.
There are some innovations in the current events programmes too –Super One’s Team has evolved into Target, an investigative programme led by journalists Miriam Dalli and Glenn Bedingfield. With one-and-a-half hours allotted to it at 9.30pm every Wednesday, this is expected to be at the helm of Super One’s current events programmes.
Other innovations include Mona Lisa (Friday, 8.35pm), an experimental programme featuring Toni Abela and Ruth Frendo that will focus on the contribution of women through the ages – hence the title, which is meant to symbolise all the complexities of the female sex.
Other well-known and established favourites retain their slots: Alfred Zammit’s Kalamita (every weekday at 1pm), Norman Hamilton’s Bla Agenda (Saturday, 8.30pm), Bravi, Straight to the Point (Thursday, 10.05pm), to name but a few.
Lynn Faure’s programme, Ta’ Lynn, will be broadcast on Sundays at 10.30am, but its content will expand to become “more generous”.
Sports enthusiasts can follow L-Argument, Zona Sport and Sal-Gister. And kids have not been forgotten in the new Super One schedule. Programmes such as Tommy Toes (Tuesday and Wednesday at 4.30pm), BAZ…ART (Wednesday at 4.30pm) and Zugragu l-Kangaroo (Wednesday, 5pm) should ensure Super One gets the attention of its little followers too.
Mr Marshall also spoke about radio where, he said, One Productions was attempting to introduce new elements without damaging the “winning formula”.
