Stephen Mackay, aged 28 from Valletta, was charged with injuring two VAT inspectors, Manuel Azzopardi and Anton Borg, and giving them false information. He was also accused of breaching the peace by shouting and swearing.

The accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him and was granted bail against a Lm2,000 personal guarantee.

Inspector Josric Mifsud prosecuted while Dr Roberto Montalto and Dr Jose Herrera appeared for Mr Mackay.

Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani Grima presided over the court.
