Construction work is moving according to plan with block T4 Foreshore completed in shell form while the building of T4 Back, T5, T6, T7, having Foreshore and Back blocks, is underway. Works on block T8 and T9 have now also started while the restoration of Fort Tignè will commence in the coming weeks.

Just a few weeks ago, the Malta Environment and Planning Authority issued the full development permit for the construction of the second part of the underground trunk road, providing an uninterrupted link between Tignè Seafront and Qui-Si-Sana Road.

MIDI chief executive officer Ben Muscat expressed his satisfaction on the increasing interest from foreign buyers. A good number of foreign clients decided to invest in a home in what will be one of the most

stylish and impressive urban environments in the Mediterranean.

The work carried out so far at Tignè Point regularly engages over 170 tradesmen employed by various contractors. MIDI’s architects, aoM Partnership, led by Professor Alex Torpiano, are also satisfied with the progress to date.

On his part, Minister Mugliett said that the completion of the first block in the Tignè Point development is the first step in the injection of a new lease of life to the area. He added that progress on the Tignè project guarantees not only the regeneration of the peninsula but also the utilisation of its invaluable cultural and historical assets on it.

Mr Mugliett said the ministry continually monitors the capital projects it is responsible for and has been in liaison with various departments and government agencies to ensure the benchmarks set are respected.

MIDI has been also involved in a serious of regular meetings with the government and the programmed project phasing is well within the parameters agreed to.

Meanwhile, in the coming months, work will continue on a number of other buildings overlooking what will be known as Pjazza Tignè. Here, the public will have the opportunity to enjoy what will be the largest pedestrianised zone in Malta.

At Pjazza Tignè there will be a large retail and leisure mall to be known as “The Point”, while a limited number of town house apartments will also form part of Pjazza Tignè’s development.

Major restoration work at Fort Manoel at Manoel Island got under way in August and Midi is presently following the application with the Malta Environment and Planning Authority for the development of the breakwater at the tip of Lazzaretto.

MIDI plc has so far spent over Lm200,000 on emergency interventions and restoration work at Fort Manoel since the consortium started operating in 2001.

Next year will also see the start of work on the last series of the residential blocks forming the Tignè South phase, located adjacent to the apartments launched in May 2003, and to Fort Tignè. These apartments will also enjoy stunning views of Valletta and the Pjazza.
