A 33-year-old Bangladeshi man was seriously injured on Tuesday afternoon after falling down a lift shaft at a construction site in Mosta.

Police said they were informed of the incident at around 3:45pm. The accident happened at a construction site in Triq il-Farkizzan.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the man, who lives in Ħamrun, was carrying out works when he fell down the lift shaft from a height of approximately three storeys.

Members of the Civil Protection Department and a medical team were called to the scene to assist. The injured worker was taken by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital, where he was certified as suffering from serious injuries.

Magistrate Dr Philip Galea Farrugia has been informed of the case and appointed an inquiry.

Police investigations are ongoing, together with investigations by the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
