No one was injured in this accident, which took place on Tuesday, but people living in the area were alarmed at the way power went off.

A carpenter working in the area reported that his machines started shaking and his son suffered an electric shock, fortunately without serious consequences.

The Police and Enemalta employees and officials were on the spot in no time and started investigating and repairing the damage done to external cables along St Anthony, St Joseph and Tal-Qacca Streets. In some areas these simply melted and came down, eyewitnesses said.

The extent of the damage, especially to domestic appliances, is great, residents reported. Many residents spoke of damage to refrigerators, computers, television sets and other appliances which are beyond repair.

A leading businessman who has a warehouse in the area reported that he lost nearly all of his refrigerating commercial equipment.

In spite of the great damage to the power supply system, power was restored to the area within four hours after the accident happened.
