Golf Course promoters ‘are leading the country by the nose’

Malta Independent Tuesday, 19 October 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Mepa’s calls for a list of potential sites, with appropriate studies on their developmental viability, by the end of the month is another example of how various entities in our country still think that citizens can be led by the nose, said a spokesman.

The NGO recalls that Mepa had previously undertaken an analysis of sites where golf courses were theoretically possible, but in the end, all the proposed sites were discarded when practicalities and the effect on the environment were considered. Nature Trust cannot believe that two golf courses can be operational in 2005, considering the detailed studies required after commissioning the appropriate multi-seasonal environment impact assessments.

Nature Trust urges the general public to closely monitor the situation and speak out loudly should regulations be by-passed or shortcut as a result of undue pressure.
