The mayor was speaking during a visit by Labour leader Alfred Sant to the locality.

Dr Sant praised the Labour-led council for spending Lm36,000 since June on tarmac and a further Lm8,000 on the cleaning of culverts.

He also praised the council for spending Lm1,500 on more shelves and more books for the local library.

The next Budget

The forthcoming Budget Speech will include measures to help attract investment, job creation and a greater participation of women at work. It will also focus on education and on the environment, the Prime Minister announced yesterday.

Speaking at a party activity in Gozo, Dr Gonzi claimed that while British PM Tony Blair is focusing on making the pension and healthcare systems sustainable, his counterpart in Malta, the leader of the Labour Party, insists everything just be left as it is.

The place of women

Speaking at a Fundazzjoni Guze Ellul Mercer seminar, Labour leader Alfred Sant urged for the greater participation of women in the leadership of voluntary organisations.

He praised women such as Agatha Barbara and Mabel Strickland for showing what women could do in public life.
