The competition was intended to encourage people be more aware of their environment and be proud of the appearance of their town. It was organised by Iklin local council and launched in April by Deputy Prime Minister Toni Borg to emphasise the importance councils give to the environment.

Iklin mayor Anthony Dalli said the introduction of bring-in sites and CCTV cameras are other measures being used to further safeguard the environment.

M. Demajo Group, Design Elements and the Malta Horticulture Society sponsored the event.
