Dr Fenech Adami flew to Portugal yesterday to meet with Portuguese President Jorge Sampaio in order to discuss the challenges and opportunities an enlarged EU presents.

The Portuguese president congratulated Dr Fenech Adami on Malta’s EU membership and said, now is the ideal time for the two countries to strengthen their relations.

In response to the positive comments made by Mr Sampaio, Dr Fenech Adami thanked him for the support successive Portuguese governments gave Malta in the process of its entry into the union.

Foreign Affairs Minister Michael Frendo and Portuguese Ambassador for Malta Salvinu Busuttil accompanied the President on his visit.
