This was another step undertaken by the government in keeping its promise in providing technical and financial help to the agricultural sector.

The government is committed to see that the agricultural sector moves forward so that local farmers will be able to reach their European peers. Dr Agius said Maltese farmers should exploit every financial aid available provided by the EU.

Although Malta still has a long way to go, Dr Agius said that Maltese farmers are already making use of the financial help coming the EU.

During the past few months, the Producer’s Organisation was set up.

Local agriculture is going through complete restructuring which will help local farmers reach the same level of European counterparts.

Dr Agius said the government, through the help of the EU, invested e 250,000 in the viticulture sector. A laboratory for wine analysis was set up in the Ghammieri. This lab is equipped with the latest technology such that farmers will have the best to help them improve their product.

This year a total of Lm 140,019 was distributed to farmers in the viticulture sector.

The aid is distributed at Lm 480 per tomna.
