In May 2004, St. George’s Bay in St. Julian’s was completely transformed with the placing of new sand on the beach during the first phase of the project. This phase also included the construction of part of the storm water system in the bay.
During the second phase of this project, the storm water system will be completed and a promenade constructed to connect the two sides of the bay.
It is estimated that between June and October, close to 100,000 tourists and Maltese made use of the bay. The effective management of the area by the MTA ensured that users were provided with a clean beach and basic amenities throughout this period.
Feedback received by the Ministry for Tourism and Culture and the Malta Tourism Authority, the promoters of the project, has overall been very positive.
