In 2002, he was renting a garage in Fgura. On 7 June, the garage exploded, causing extensive damage to the block of flats above the garage and the houses opposite it, as well as the adjacent garages.

Grima was accused of causing the damage due to carelessness, manufacturing fireworks in a residential area and storing explosive material. The court cleared the man of all the charges, except the last one.

Presiding magistrate Tonio Micallef Trigona noted that the court-appointed experts had ruled that the explosion had been accidental, and fined Grima Lm200 for storing the material in his garage without a licence.

Inspector Jesmond Borg prosecuted.
