The effect of the rocketing price of oil on Malta’s quality of life is the issue which will be discussed in Tuesday’s Bondiplus.

How and why does the price of oil change? Will the government increase electricity rates and if so by how much? Will the price of kerosene, cylinder gas and water rates rise as well? What options, apart from increasing prices, does the government have at its disposal? More generally, given that we import most of what we consume, will we be “importing inflation” from abroad? Will the cost of living rise as a result? These are some of the questions to be tackled in Bondiplus.

Economist Edward Scicluna and Antoine Riolo, the Malta Resources Authority CEO, will develop the discussion in a number of ways – the global economic dimension, the shift in the centre of economic gravity, the alternative sources of energy that might be viable in Malta and so on.

The studio panel will be made up of minister Austin Gatt, MLP deputy leader Charles Mangion, UHM secretary general Gejtu Vella, Rosanne Galea, Federation of Women in Business chairperson and a GWU representative. Bondiplus is aired live on Tuesday after the 8 o’clock news.
