Phoning in during an Edwin Vassallo radio talk show on Radio 101, the unidentified caller said that just a few days ago whilst in a meeting with a contractor, the latter was informed that a young man wanted to see him.

Surprisingly, this contractor broke off the meting and allowed the youth to speak to him in front of his guests.

The youth had just come out of MCAST with a certificate as a rebuilder of rubble walls.

The contractor offered the young man a job on the spot, but then the young man asked him as to how he was expected to get there since he had no car.

The contractor asked: “Do you expect me to provide a taxi?” To which the young man, according to the caller, replied: “That would not be a bad idea.”

Mr Vassallo, elsewhere in the talkshow, said that if seven supermarkets were to come together the EU would consider this formation as a cartel and the Fair Trade Commission must ban it as it would if, for instance, HSBC and BOV were to merge.

This is a free market now Mr Vassallo said, and he still cannot understand how prices have not come down.
