This has only been made possible through the work carried out by the Malta Bridgwater Association, which was formed for such a purpose in July, and by the visit made by Marsa local council in September.

The five-member delegation composed of the mayor, Francis Debono, three councillors: Joseph Cachia, Dominic Spencer and Raymond Bonnici and executive secretary Adrian Attard, made various visits to the town’s organisations, mainly West Over Green Community School, The Royal Navy Association and the Community Hospital.

They were also able to enjoy a tour of the town, during which a detailed cultural and historical insight was given by the well-known local historian John Evans.

The council’s delegation was also entertained by the Bridgwater mayor, Mr Munn, where speeches for the occasion were given by both parties and by Marsa local council executive secretary and the secretary of Malta Bridgwater Association regarding the possibilities and opportunities arising out of such a twinning project.

This has proved fruitful and rewarding as the Bridgwater Town Council has favourably agreed to twin with Marsa local council.

Following this visit, contacts between organisations from both towns have already begun and it is expected that others will follow when both towns have been officially twinned.
