The union had held meetings with Maltapost management regarding the situation of the counter administrators and the hardships that they were facing after their workload was increased substantially as a result of changes in the sorting system.

With the setting up of hubs, work related to operations is being given to counter administrators, in tandem with an increase in their usual work.

The union said that when the issue was raised, the management had assured it that it would provide a number of alternatives. However, the only measures to be implemented had been used for only a short period, while other issues had been ignored altogether.

The union had already warned that it was going to order industrial action, which was called off on 13 October as the management had promised that it would find a solution to the workload problem. In spite of the fact that three weeks have since passed, no action has been taken, which is why the union has ordered the current industrial action.
