Repubblika and Occupy Justice have called a protest for 16 September following Yorgen Fenech's acquittal over the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, saying they are "shocked and horrified" by the verdict but determined to continue fighting for justice.

The protest will be held at Great Siege Square in Valletta on Wednesday, 16 September at 7pm, 107 months after Caruana Galizia was killed in a car bomb outside her Bidnija home.

The protest will take the place of the monthly vigil traditionally held on the 16th of every month to demand justice for Caruana Galizia.

"The time for vigils is now over. Protest in solidarity," a poster announcing the event reads.

"107 months from Daphne's murder and instead of justice being served we are now further away than ever," the organisations said.

"Justice has been denied following the verdict in Fenech's trial. We are shocked and horrified and yet determined that we must keep fighting for justice."

Fenech was acquitted on Wednesday of both complicity in Caruana Galizia's murder and criminal association. The nine-person jury returned an 8-1 not guilty verdict on both charges.

Repubblika and Occupy Justice called on those angered by the verdict to attend the protest and show solidarity with Caruana Galizia's family, journalists and activists.

"If you are even a fraction as angry as we are, join us in a protest to show solidarity with Daphne's family, with all journalists and activists, and to continue the call for justice, a fight that has been going on for 107 months," they said.
