Three Jailed after fight

Anthony Portelli, 30, was jailed for eight months after he was found guilty of his involvement in the fight and of slightly injuring Mr Farrugia but was found not guilty of Mr Farrugia’s attempted

murder.

David Calleja, 39, was jailed for three months after he was found guilty of slightly injuring Mr Cardona but he was cleared of seriously injuring him.

Calleja was unanimously found not guilty of slightly injuring Mr Farrugia and disobeying police but unanimously found guilty of relapsing.

The fourth co-accused, Godwin Vella, 31, was cleared of all charges brought against him after jurors found him not guilty of injuring Mr Farrugia.

Judge Joseph Galea Debono presided over the court. Senior Counsel to the Republic Mark Said prosecuted. Dr Anglu Farrugia, Dr Edward Gatt and Dr Martin Fenech appeared for the defendants.
