Malta To play international friendly in Seville

Malta’s national team will play a friendly match against a Spanish selection of Andalusia next Wednesday at the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan in Seville. The match kicks off at 9.15pm.

The Malta contingent, under the guidance of national coach Horst Heese and his assistant Carmel Busuttil and headed by one of the MFA’s vice-presidents John Farrugia, will leave for Spain next Monday morning.

The squad is made up of many established players in the national team but also of some young faces from the Under 21 team, such as Alex Muscat, Keith Spiteri, Andrew Cohen, Claeven Frendo and Trevor Cilia.

Both Valletta’s Massimo Grima and Marsaxlokk’s Jamie Pace are included in the Malta team for this match after a long absence.

The 21-man squad is made up of the following players:

Goalkeepers:S. Darmanin (Pieta), J. Haber (B’Kara).Defenders: I. Azzopardi, S. Wellman (both Floriana), B. Said, J. Chetcuti, A. Muscat (all Sliema), K. Spiteri (Hibs), R. Briffa (B’ Kara).Midfielders: G. Agius, M. Grima (both Valletta), C. Frendo (Pieta), P. Pullicino, A. Schembri (both Hibs).Forwards: E. Barbara, J. Pace (both M’Xlokk),T. Cilia (Floriana), M. Galea, G. Mallia (both B’Kara), A. Cohen (Hibs), I. Woods (Pieta).

The Malta team will undergo two training sessions on Tuesday prior to the match.
