Stripes still awaiting goalie’s arrival

Valletta FC and Nigerian striker Chris Oretan have failed to reach an agreement and rumours have it that another club is now negotiating for his services, although his first preference remains Valletta.

Oretan arrived in Malta last Monday in the hope of joining the citizens for the rest of the season. He also played a good slice of last Tuesday’s friendly match against Willem II Tilburg of Holland at the Hibernians Ground.

Then the citizens had announced that Oretan had to sign for the club on Wednesday and would have been available to play in today’s match against Marsaxlokk.

The club’s official website said yesterday no agreement was yet in sight and negotiations were expected to continue in the next few days.

Oretan, however, will not be playing for Valletta in today’s match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Meanwhile Birkirkara FC are still awaiting the arrival of Serbian goalkeeper Ninos Grlic.

He had to arrive in Malta last Thursday and was expected to turn out for the Stripes in a trial in the friendly against Willem II Tilburg on Friday evening.

A club spokesman said yesterday the goalie had encountered some problems with the visa and was now hoping to be able to arrive in Malta today.
