Msida St Joseph are not satisfied with just the resignation of former committee member Carmelo Chircop who assaulted the assistant referee, Nicky Debattista, near the end of last Saturday’s match against Pieta at Ta’ Qali.
The committee, apart from forcing him to resign from the committee, have also deplored the incident officially, condemning the conduct of the same official of the club.
However, they still claimed that the decision to award Pieta a penalty in the final moments was dubious and highly controversial. They said that decision ‘will definitely leave its mark on the team’s progress this season’.
The Saints committee is now expected to discuss the matter in detail and will also take the actions it deems necessary.
As everyone must be aware, Chircop was summoned in court on Monday and was refused bail.
