Handball: Kavallieri Girls have the edge over La Salle

Malta Independent Friday, 21 January 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

APS Bank U/16 League

La Salle 29

D-HS 8

There was no match between these two teams from the APS Bank U/16 league. La Salle, with their talented squad, found no problem in beating an inexperienced D-Hs side. For the winners it was evident the strength on the left side with Ian Turban and Alessandro Zerafa being fast and blending well together in attack.

Referees: Stefan Debono, Clyde Borg Conti

Player of the match: Alessandro Zerafa.

Aloysians 21

Kavallieri 8

It was another unbalanced issue

this second game from the U/16 league, with Aloysians keeping pace with La Salle and winning their respective game. The losers tried to offer some opposition at first but on the left wing Neville Borg was unstoppable and Kavallieri could not find way to penetrate Aloysians’ strong defence.

Referees : Alan Grima, Thomas Degiorgio

Player of the match: Neville Borg.

Women National League

La Salle 13

Kavallieri 18

A nice game was seen between these two historical women teams in Maltese handball. The game started immediately on a fast pace and it was a balanced affair. In the second half Kavallieri came out more spirited than the opponents and started taking the lead. A man marking defensive system by John Falzon did not leave the wished outcome for La Salle who conceded the first defeat after almost a season and a half.

Referees: Tanya Baldacchino, Clyde Borg Conti

Player of the match: Cathrine Fleri Soler.

Men National League

Depiro 17

Aloysians 20

Though it was not a nice game to watch as it did not produce lots of goals in the first half, one must say it was a very tactical one. It was a balanced encounter where both teams had a good performance from their talented players but Aloysians succeeded to win the game because of stronger defence and maybe a bit more of better team play.

Referees: Mark Farrugia, John Falzon

Player of the match: Philip Mifsud.
