Mario Aquilina (Sailing)

Took part in the Athens Olympics where he finished 39th out of 44 competitors. Was named as the best sailor of the year and won all regattas organized in Malta except the national championship where he finished second. In May, he took part in the Spain Cup, finishing fourth from among 26 sailors. At present he occupies first place in the Laser ranking list.

Alex Borg (snooker)

Catain of the national team that won the European Cup. He was also a finalist in the European Championship (individual). Finished in the Last 16 in the world championship and set up a national record with a 144 break. He won the national championship and five of six ranking tournaments throughout the season. At present he is topping the ranking list.

William Chetcuti

(shooting)

Took part in the Athens Olympics where he finished ninth in the double trap competition, registering the best ever score by a Maltese, the same as that of Peter Bonello in the Los Angeles Olympics. He won the European juniors championship setting a world record and was also the winner of the national double trap championship and other local competitions.

Stefan Giglio (football)

He helped Sliema win the Malta Championship title and the FA Trophy with some impressive performances. Took part, also with Sliema, in the Champions league and was a regular member of the national team. The MFA named him as its Footballer of the Year. He was also named Player of the match on several occasions.

Darren Gilford

(athletics)

Took part in the Athens Olympics in the Birmingham Games and in the indoor world championships in Budapest. He established a new national record in the 60m dash and won this event and the 100m at several meetings organised by the MAAA. He also won the national championship.
