Wins For Mosta and Hibernians

Mosta and Hibernians registered wins on the 12th day of the women’s football championship.

Mosta defeated Raiders by three goals to two, while the Paola girls had no difficulty beating bottom placed St Venera 8-0.

Amanda Atkins gave Raiders the lead on 31 minutes but two minutes later, Mosta equalised through Vanessa Deguara. Anne Marie Vella gave them the lead on 40 minutes and four minutes later, Jane Coates scored a third for Mosta to give a 3-1 half-time lead.

Raiders scored their second goal on 67 mintues through Natasha Calleja who headed in an Amanda Atkins freekick.

In the second match, there was no story as Hibernians dominated from start to finish.

By the end of the first half, the Paola girls had already piled a six-goal lead. Their scorers were Sarah Caruana (3), Dorianne Theuma, Dionne Tonna and tessie Agius.

In the second half, Hibs maintained their domination but could only add two further goals through Patricia Borg and Kathleen Saliba.

When all teams have played seven matches except for Birkirkara who have played a match fewer, the standings are as follows:

Birkirkara and Hibs 18 points; Melita 15; Mosta 12, Raiders 6, Rabat 3 and St Venera 0.

Top scorers: Kathleen Saliba (Hibernians) 11; Sarah Caruana (Hibs) and Rebecca D’Agostino (Birkirkara) 10; Jane Coates (Mosta) 7.

Next matches: Sunday 30 January: 9am Melita-Birkirkara; 11am Raiders-Rabat Ajax.
