The Sportswriters Association will have former Italian Olympic champion Livio Berruti as its guest for next Saturday’s finals night of the national sporting contests.
Berruti had won the gold medal in the 200m final at Rome’s Olympic Stadium in 1960. He also set a new world record then clocking 20.5 seconds in the semi-final.
His victory enabled him to become the first athlete from Europe to beat the athletes from the United States.
Berruti was born in Turin on 19 May 1939 and was still a student in medicine when he qualified to take part in the Olympics.
