Following this result, San Gwann are in the danger zone with 5 points from 10 games third from last while stripes are on 10 points from some number of games lying fourth from bottom.

The stripes enjoyed the lion's share of the exchanges throughout the game and the final result belies the difference between the two teams.

Birkirkara keeper Mark Sciberras saved in two attempts on Alex Tanti after a David Cuschieri flag kick, at the other end, San Gwann, keeper Matthew Sciberras foiled Neil Hales after Clayton Mifsud through ball, after a Steve Mercieca free kick, Hales drove over the bar with only Sciberras to beat, Mifsud then pounced on a loose ball and missed the bar by inches.

In a San Gwann counter-attack Sciberras neutralized a cross by Luke Sciberras and he also foiled the same player with a timely sortie a while later after a Jonathan Borg through ball. Troy Zammit put Geoffrey Spiteri through but his shot was cleared to corner by a San Gwann defender.

B'Kara resumed their pressure after restart. Sciberras partially saved on Hales after a Spiteri flag kick and also dived to save Thomas Camilleri after a George Marimor through ball.

In a San Gwann reaction Borg crossed to substitute LeeRoy Bonnet but he shot over the bar and Sciberras had to dive to save on Borg.

B'Kara were denied by the woodwork in the 59th and 62nd minutes; from a Hales cross shot by Leo Curmi thumped the bar with Sciberras beaten and after a throw-in by Spiteri: Joseph Zerafa hit the upright, Sciberras had to dive and save to corner a Camilleri shot. Eight minutes from the end, Camilleri was fouled in San Gwann's half and George Marinov netted a beauty with a rising shot from a 25 metres free kick, giving San Gwann's substitue keeper Nicholas Vella no chance.

In the second minute of added time San Gwann came close to the equalizer but Sciberras tipped the ball over the bar from a free kick shot by Marco Mercieca.

St Andrews fully deserved the verdict as they were the better outfit creating more occasions than their opponents, they are now in third place on 21 points from 11 games.

Dean Hili missed St. Andrews bar by inches with a long distant shot. St. Andrews forged a head in the sixth minute through Luca Ellul after Thomas Sullivan through ball.

Pembroke' keeper Duncan Calleja foiled Luca Ellul after being put through by Mark Grech, he then saved in two attempts on Simon Psaila and also saved on Luca Ellul.

St. Andrews doubled the score in the 23rd minute through Psaila who made no mistake after a Michael Ellul cross, and from a flag kick by the same player Michael Debono headed over the bar.

Calleja saved on Michael Ellul and also saved in two attempts on Luca Ellul after a Keith Balzan through pass.

In a Pembroke reaction, a shot by Dean Hili was cleared to corner: keeper Mark Muscat saved to corner a hot by Balzan after a Hili cross and from a Hili flag kick the ball was cleared on the fatal line.

St. Andrews nearly netted a third goal on 62 minutes; Calleja partially saved on Michael Ellul, from the rebound shot by Psaila Calleja again partially saved and the rebound shot saved by the same player was cleared to safety.

From a Hili free kick shot Muscat affected a guard save to a corner. Seven minutes from time Pembroke reduced the deficit through Hili who shot in the rebound after Muscat had partially saved a shot by Daniel Camilleri.
