Snooker – European Team championship

Malta Independent Tuesday, 1 February 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Malta Sport Council will be assisting the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association in the organisation of the European Snooker Team Championships. The KMS will be one of the main sponsors of this event.

The Maltese team will be defending the title achieved last year in Riga, Latvia, when Alex Borg, Duncan Bezzina and Simon Zammit lifted the cup as the European Champions of the first edition of these championships.

This led to the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association being awarded theduty of organising the championship in Malta itself.

This will be held between the 7 and 12 March at the New Dolmen Hotel, Qawra. Twenty

European teams are expected to participate.

Apart from the male teams, there are sections dedicated to ‘Seniors’ and ‘Ladies’’ teams. Around 250 people – including players, referees and officials – will be involved. Fourteen brand new snooker tables will be brought over and used for the first time on this occasion.

For this reason, the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association has thanked the Council for Sport for the financial assistance, without which such a championship would definitely not have been possible.
